As well as the technical demands, oil and gas engineering operates within a heavily regulated environment. Health and safety legislation, environmental standards and sector-specific requirements all influence how engineering work must be planned, executed and documented. Suppliers without robust quality management systems and clear audit trails struggle to meet these requirements consistently. ISO 9001:2015 accreditation provides a foundation, but buyers in this sector are right to look beyond the certificate and ask how quality is actually managed on the shop floor.
Not every fabrication business is genuinely equipped to serve the oil and gas sector, regardless of what their website says. The combination of technical capability, documented processes, certified personnel and appropriate accreditations narrows the field considerably.
